SO…YOU WANT TO BE A REALTOR??

There is a lot of talk in the news about real estate agent commissions. Agents LOVE what they do and they do it because they LOVE helping people but there is almost always a huge misconception on what they do and how they get paid.

The average FULL TIME agent’s earnings last year were under $40,000 annual at 40+ hours a week.

(Notice I wrote full time 40+ hours not 0-20 hours a week - that’s a huge proportion of our colleagues and their income is even lower) - which is well below the living wage. As a REALTOR they do not get paid a hourly wage or salary and they only get paid if they sell a home and it closes. As an agent you could work with someone days, weeks, months, or years with no guarantee of a sale ever.

Essentially, they wake up each day unemployed, going on job interviews and they deal with constant rejection. They dedicate time away from family, use time, gas, pay for babysitters, miss dinner and weekends, and rarely take vacations. They are on 24/7! They constantly need to be on, or they could miss an opportunity. Once a listing agent does close a home, half goes to the other person’s agent. They have lots of upfront expenses that must be paid out before they even get paid:

Naples Equity golf communities require a onetime payment for the Golf Membership fee and you will also be required to pay annual membership dues. The membership fee, in most equity communities, will be refunded upon resale to an agreed percentage advertised at the time of purchase. Arrowhead Golf Course (public)

Arrowhead Golf Course at Heritage Greens features manicured greens and tees, sculpted fairways, and well-placed bunkers. Course highlights include four sets of tees which accommodate all skill levels. Large greens allow for varying pin placements and fair recovery of errant shots. Wide fairways with ample landing areas provide for fewer lost balls and faster play. The third hole is a double dogleg, a rarity in Florida. The hole doglegs first right around a nature preserve, then around a lake bordered by stone.

Audubon Country Club (private)

Renowned golf architect Joe Lee designed the 18-hole, 6,700-yard championship golf course. Glen Eagle Golf and Country Club (private)

Glen Eagle Golf & Country Club features narrow fairways and water hazards on 14 holes. The greens are generally flat and medium in size, but are strategically bordered by numerous bunkers requiring accurate iron play. Hole No. 14 is a short 464-yard par-5, which requires perfect placement all the way to the green; from the tees, players must contend with out-of-bounds on the right and a large pond on the left. Course Information: One 18-hole course. An older and very exclusive club that was originally started for Port Royal residents. Comments: Membership by invitation only, sponsoring member must request current information in person. Hole in the Wall and adjacent Royal Poinciana are two of the few clubs that are not part of a real estate development. Clubhouse has lunch dining only. Imperial Golf Club (private)

Course Information: Two 18-hole courses, designed by Arthur Hills & Ware Northrup, with a tremendous amount of natural beauty. Comments: Private golf club with 2 championship golf courses covering over 300 acres of wooded land, with rolling hills and spring-fed lakes. Lely Island Mustang

Lee Trevino´s philosophy of making the game challenging, but fair for the average golfer is evident at the Mustang course. The Mustang is designed as a forgiving layout where a player will be able to recover from a bad shot. Twelve lakes decorate the landscape, but always off to the side, reflecting Trevino´s disdain of water.
